Super Happy with the Updated Paperback Version
Your browser does not support HTML5 video. I have always loved this book and first bought it years ago as a hard cover. I use it as a read aloud for my elementary students every year. This year I needed to get another copy for a project which students will get to take the book home and bought the soft cover. To my surprise: the book is updated with diverse characters and the final number reflects the many more people we have on earth.Grateful for the author and illustrator who made the choices of making this book more inclusive so children can use the book as a mirror or window. ❤️

The girls (and moms) LOVED this story
I used this book during a Daisy Girl Scout meeting. We read this before we started our painting project... We were painting flower pots to use in an upcoming community service project we are doing at the beginning of June. We will be doing a "Planting with Grandmas And Grandpas" day where they will be using the pots they painted and then leaving them with the assisted living community we are going in to. The girls (and moms) LOVED this story! We talked about how one small act of kindness and can quickly spread from one person to another. It was a great seg-way in to why we are doing something nice for someone else with out expecting anything in return.

Great story for kids of ALL ages!
Used this book for children's moment at church at Christmas, tying it to mission projects being done at church, challenging children to do whatever good they could for others and just see how far the good wishes could go. Gave them 2 candycanes at end of story, one to keep, one to share, along with a smile. Had great response from kids of all ages...including adults. Highly recommend!

Wonderful book and a Wonderful message
This book fit in so well with the summer reading library program theme this year which was "Build a Better Tomorrow!" The character, Mary, starts with such a simple deed that grows and how many people are touched by it. It is a wonderful book that shows how doing something so small can change us for the better. There are wonderful characters in the book that we encounter each day in our every day livesOne of the little library friends said, "You don't have to be big to make a change in the world!" Doing an ordinary deed can truly help us build a better tomorrow!

I like the general story line and illustrations
I like the general story line and illustrations, but the flow of the writing is inconsistent. Some parts rhyme and have rhythm, then others do not. It makes for a faltering flow while reading aloud. My 4 year old is usually interested in any kind of book and maintains great focus throughout our readings. She seemed to become bored with this one about half way through. Maybe she'll have greater interest in the story when she's older.

... women and she said this was one of her favorite books. I ordered and LOVE it
I was listening to a leadership podcast from a very successful women and she said this was one of her favorite books. I ordered and LOVE it! I've sent it to so many people, read it to my kids all of the time and have even read it to our churches youth. For Valentines last year I sent this book and a box of blue berry muffin mix to my sisters families. This book is SO cute and has a message that even as an adult I find myself thinking about.

This is a great book to help teach little kids a lesson about why it pays off to be nice to others, my only complaint is that it's a little tedious to keep reading the word "ordinary" so many times in the beginning.

Perfect for children and teaching kindness
Kindness is sometimes easily overlooked in the world these day. However, teaching our children kindness is so important. This book is a beautifully written and illustrated example of kindness and how one person like Mary, can help change the world! My 6 year old and 4 year old requested for the second time as their bedtime story. Perfect for elementary age!

Truly beautiful and powerful message
Excellent idea for a story, we loved it, although I don't think all the examples in the story are necessarily the best. Overall a brilliant book with a truly beautiful and powerful message! Teaches children the power of small random acts of kindness & gives them some agency to change the world one good deed at a time! Love it!

Great book, I bought it for an assembly and it's too long. Much better for smaller groups of children. I like the story and repetition is fun.
