‘A harmless herb with many amazing benefits.‘
Erik Smith is a prolific writer of self-help books. Some of his many publications include ENLIGHTENED RUNNING, FORAGING, STRESS MANAGEMENT, CARBOHYDRATE CYCLING FOR WOMEN, NATURAL TESTOSTERONE BOOSTERS FOR MEN, HIGH FIBER FOODS, GRATITUDE JOURNAL, GREEN SMOOTHIES, TEA CLEANSES, MEDITATION FOR BEGINNERS, LIFE COACHNG, VITAMIN D, LOW CARB for Weight Loss, NOOTROPICS, DUKAN DIET, INTROVERT, LIFE COACHING, LEARNING - and many more. Now he explores the KRATOM!Erik sets the tone of his warmly shared information in his introductory definition of Kratom: ‘Kratom is a familiar name for a large tropical tree called Mitragyna Speciosa, a plant that is indigenous to the marshy or wet areas of Southeast Asian countries such as Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar, New Guinea, and Borneo. Mitragyna Speciosa belongs to the Rubiaceae family, more commonly known as the coffee family. It can grow taller than 50 feet and expand to a diameter of over 15 feet. Its trunk is straight and branching with a smooth and grey outer bark. The tree generates yellow flower pods that can contain approximately 50 seeds. Its flowers grow in clusters at the ends of its branches. The leaves of the Kratom tree have ovate form that narrow to a pointed end. A leaf can have dark green or light green color with either light red or dark red veins. It has a middle vein that runs straight from the base to its tip. This main vein can have 12 to 17 pairs of symmetrical veins. The leaves can grow to over 7 inches long and 4 inches wide. The medicinal properties of a Kratom tree are concentrated on its leaves. Kratom has a long history of consumption as a safe, mild, and effective folk remedy in the East. It is revered for its medicinal benefits and much sought after for its psychoactive effects. Native residents either chew fresh leaves or prepare tea from its leaves to invigorate them for the day’s backbreaking work at rural areas and farms. It is traditionally consumed with little or no preparation at all. Mitragyna Speciosa is relatively new in the West. Its origin, uses, preparation, dosage, and benefits are obscure to medical practitioners and regulatory bodies.’In this brief but useful exploration of being a faster learner Erik covers the spectrum by exploring A Close Look at Kratom, Mitragyna Speciosa - Then and Now, Strains and Varieties of Kratom, The Health Benefits of Kratom, Dosage and Preparation, and Is Kratom Safe?(‘Kratom’s main components include 7- hydroxymitragynine, an opioid agonist. Once released into the bloodstream, this alkaloid can have similar effects as an opioid. It is this association that makes kratom dangerous in the eyes of health authorities.) A nice balance presented by a sensitive observer.Yes, this is a brief half hour read, but in it Erik touches on a subject few people elect to explore. As with all of his books the capsule of information is helpful. Grady Harp, February 18

Very down to earth information.
This book was a little vague. It touched on points but not much detail. It does explain things about Kratom where it comes from. The strains and colors were a little hard to understand.

A WEALTH OF INFORMATION WELL STATED
Seeking a comprehensive snapshot of Kratom before experimenting, Erik Smith's beginners' guide was indeed well named. Fascinating throughout and concise in its brevity - bravo.

Brief, yet thorough.
I'm interested in trying this supplement. This book covered all the basics and addressed the items I was most interested in learning.

One of the better current Kratom pamphlets
There are no real books on Kratom on Amazon as of fall 2017. They are all pamphlets that can be read in a few minutes, so that's what I'll compare against. I have Kindle Unlimited so I read five Kraton "books" in about an hour. This is probably the book that has the best writing. It's clear, has decent grammar and only a few editing errors. If you have Kindle Unlimited, give it a try. If not do a Google search and read a couple of faqs. It probably isn't worth three bucks. It is also one of the more technical books as it includes a bit of botany and history. I appreciate that, but it can be skipped. The practical part begins after the history. That lists the most common strains of Kratom, then which strains typically produce which effects. There is a recipe for making Kratom tea, and instruction on taking the powdered form. The author is clear in recommending occasional to moderate usage. He also warns against using Kratom with other drugs or alcohol. There are no recommendations for particular sellers.
