Learn to Play on Sitar

The information is there, but there is something of a language barrier. The title should give it away: "Learn to Play On Sitar". (Someone who spoke English would probably have called it "Learn to Play Sitar".) On the cover, you see that this is part of the "Learn Yourself Music" Series, and the back cover tells you the book is suitable for "professional, amateur or decorative." (Still haven't figured that one out.)He introduces the Indian (Hindi?) equivalent of the English term for note, measure, etc., and then uses that term instead. This is a little more confusing than it sounds, because he is not entirely consistent in spelling a word the same way each time (some times on the same page).I am giving this three stars instead of two, in spite of the language barrier, because this has become somewhat symbolic of my experience trying to learn sitar. If you are an American trying to learn sitar on your own, you either know what I mean or are about to find out. If you don't have the patience to sort through this book, then the sitar is not for you.

try techniques of the sitar better book,,,this book starts off easy if you are Indian and is very hazy on tuning(main part)and goes from simple exercises to full in Indian style very quickly,very confusing and a lot of figuring out

Very few good Sitar books around, this is a must, essential. I found it really helpful and easy to understand.
