This game is totally amazing!
The game was ship in 3 days and in perfect condition! I had played this game several years ago and I just wanted to play it again. I had regretted getting rid of it back-in-the-day because it is an awesome game to play! I enjoy the gameplay, the storyline, and the artwork most of all! It is like an anime come to life in each and every scene. It was definitely an amazing game during 1999 when it came out. I had never played the first Saga Frontier but from what I have seen, it not as great as this one. Overall, it is a very active and enjoyable game to play!

Saga Frontier 2: Second verse not as good as the first.
I loved the first game with it's "chose your own adventure" format and it's enchanting tales of a futureistic/mystical world full of Vampire-like Mysitcs and vengeful superheroes, so when I read in my favorite gameing publication, PSM, that Square Soft was releasing a sequal, I was thrilled. as soon as it appeared on the shelves, I bought it and began playing as soon as I got home. Sadly the game play can get tedious at times and it lacks the wide range of immediately playable characters that the first outing had, other than that, the game is pretty good. If you look at SF2 as a stand-alone title instead of a sequal, you stop compairing it with the original and see it for the intriguing story it is. It may not be Lunar or final fantasy calliber as far as story and character development, but the battle system has been improved scince the first game and there is plenty of humor to be found scattered about. All in all, Saga Frontier 2 is just a good game for a rainy, boring day.

The biggest disappointment of my life
The first SaGa Frontier was absolutely incredible, so I bought this game... without hesitation. I would have been better off buying Soda Caps and root beer. I'm serious. This game is just plain no fun. The gameplay is like SaGa Frontier 1, but with anything to possibly differentiate your characters removed almost entirely. The fighting is pure tedium. The story, while better than the first game, is like reading an encyclopedia. Everything that made SaGa Frontier 1 so great has been removed or replaced. Two stars for the graphics and the concept.

Why in God's name did they make a sequel?
I own Saga Frontier one and it isn't as bad this is. Why can't these SaGa Frontier games be good? I thought that this game would be different. No longer competely non-linear gameplay. There is a story that is very evident how who are supposed to follow it. Not like Saga Frontier where you could wander around for three hours and still not know what you wher doing. The battle system reminded me of old Game Boy games. You can only use this weapon 50 times and the attacks are incredibly weak quick whack the enemy again. I'm sorry but I am a firm believer that weapons shouldn't have a fixed usage to them. I believe that they should break on a rare occasion but they shouldn't have fixed number of times to use. The story goes between two characters that you choose which one to follow. At least they took a better stab at making a better story for the characters than they did last time. The battle system is also very complex. There are three types and sometimes it really confuses the player as to the differences between the three (and there are differences). The game's music has never been a strong point. I didn't care for it at all. Some of it was really good the rest sounded really bad. The graphics are beautiful though. They look very similar to those in Legend of Mana (same artists I think) and they will bowl you over. If you like graphics and don't care about anything else with a game enjoy. Otherwise don't waste your money.

Quite disappointed........
I was quite disappointed with the quality of this game expecting the SQUARE quality. I have played most of SAGA series known to be another generation of FF series.. Every SAGA series have been quite interesting because of its use of 'free scenario' where players can choose which event to complete in any order. Surely it was like that until the first Saga Frontier. With SF2 a player can choose which event to do next but in a way it lost that sense of 'freedom'. The game is like reading a history book and the player has several options when playing the game. Each time period has different main character and that character may appear in different time period (either older or younger)In terms of the game play, it is quite simply to learn but towards the end you would have played so many characters, you tend to forget which character has what items. Pocketstation can be used for 'Go go digger' and other game which I cannot remember but I did not find them very useful. If you are used to games such as FF, then you may find this game quite different and at the same time quite hard to get used to the system.

Customer service was outstanding when I had questions about the product.
Try to forget about the first SaGa Frontier. Tell yourself that Square's muddled foray into the depths of nonlinear hell never happened. Taking the criticisms of thousands of disappointed (and frequently lost) gamers to heart, Square has drastically overhauled the sequel and proven itself eager to atone for previous game-design sins. Gone are multiple unfocused plotlines and unclear quests; in their place is a free-flowing tale of political intrigue set in a world brimming with High Germanic overtones. SaGa Frontier 2 is a sequel to the original in name only; in spirit, the game might as well be Romancing SaGa 4.
The sequel's greatest change is in the presentation of the story. You choose which scenarios to undertake with the traditional Romancing SaGa-style parchment map and quill. At the game's onset, you can choose from two different scenarios. One plotline follows Gustav XIII, a prince sent into exile for his lack of magical powers. Another follows William, a young treasure hunter seeking answers to his father's disappearance. As the story progresses, more characters join the party, each with his own potential quests and story elements. The successful completion of a scenario usually opens up one or two more potential paths.
These paths, however, are not always chronologically arranged! Like an episode of Quantum Leap, the story crisscrosses Sandail's history; one moment, you'll be fighting in 1247; the next, in 1235, and so on. Fortunately, a thorough chronicle feature helps you navigate the labyrinthine story developments within each century. This story system strikes a pleasant balance between linearity and freedom; you choose which scenarios to experience (and in what order), but the overall thrust of the game is always in the same general direction: toward the future. The storyline isn't as complex or convoluted as a Final Fantasy; neither is it as threadbare as the first SaGa Frontier. You get the impression that your characters are both witnesses to and authors of the world's history.
The battle system is similar to SaGa Frontier's: Your characters attack foes with a variety of weapons and techniques, improving their skills with repeated use; many attacks can be combined to form even more powerful offensives. Each attack or technique uses points from either the WP or JP pool. Characters' HP energy is restored automatically between battles.
SaGa Frontier 2, however, adds a few new twists. Characters can be assigned roles that affect their battle tasks; for example, the diversion role lets a character preemptively split up enemy combination attacks. Characters no longer lose a life point (LP) upon dying, and can now sacrifice an LP at the beginning of a round to refill their HP. Also, a new recovery skill lets characters regain small amounts of WP and JP between rounds. These refinements address one of SaGa Frontier's largest weaknesses: an inability to heal effectively. Also, before each battle, you are frequently given the option of engaging in a one-on-one duel. This is an excellent opportunity for a single character to develop his exclusive talents. Some techniques can only be learned during duel mode.
But even these gameplay changes seem insignificant compared to the total graphical overhaul. Instead of computer-rendered backgrounds or sharply delineated sprites, SaGa Frontier 2 creates its characters and environments with lush, hand-painted watercolors. It's as if the original sketches and paintings from the game's design phase were placed, unblemished by a digitizing hand, into the game itself. The game's relaxed and flowing tones are a pleasant breeze of creativity when compared to most games' CG, polygons, and pixel-perfect graphics.
The music is typical of the Romancing SaGa series: romantically orchestral with an emphasis on rousing brass. While the sound quality is excellent, the tunes don't stay with you after the game, unlike Square's finest compositions. Sound effects are somewhat repetitive, if mostly harmless.
