Hyperconverged Infrastructure Data Centers: Demystifying HCI (Networking Technology)

Another solid book from Sam Halabi
As a tech writer and trainer, I know how important it is to find solid, up-to-date, and easily digestible sources on current practices in telecommunications and computers. It sometimes seems as if tech books are obsolete, but for the basics, a sound foundation all in one place beats linking all over the internet to put things together. Instead of thinking, “Now, where did I find that nice representation of the VMware file system?” you can just go, “Oh, it’s right here on page 83.” Sam Halabi excels at this “everything in one place” approach to technology, bundling the general and the specifics in logical ways.I bought this book because I admired his previous book on internet routing architectures. I was not disappointed by this book on hyperconverged infrastructure (HCI) data centers (a lot of data center books are still stuck about 10 years ago). The book is not perfect; I know people who will argue strenuously against the idea that “containers in hyperconverged networks have not yet reached maturity.” But you have to throw a lariat around your topic at some point or another, and what lands outside the boundary can be tackled later in another book.Buy this book and read it. You’ll learn a lot.

In-depth multi Vendor outline of HCI for those wanting to learn the subjet
A great in-depth outline of HCI which includes an excellent history of compute, storage and networking evolution over the years as well as a refresher with existing technologies. The author covers the inception of stand-alone and converged technology and re-enforces it as he progresses into HCI technology and uses. He includes SDN and Intent base networking and compares ACI to NSX to OVN etc. and how they fare within an HCI solution. He also does a great job in comparing and contrasting with other solutions not from Cisco to give the reader a clear contrast and options for planning and selecting the correct solution. The book not only provides those with an introduction to advanced topics but is also useful as a reference after a full read. Highly recommended. I hope he updates the editions since it is a good reference tool for planning in the future.

Very useful reference on HCI
This is an up to date reference on HyperConverged Infrastructure (HCI). Highly recommend it for those who need to have a solid grasp of HCI technology & approaches. The book covers several use cases and value props to help you understand where HCI best fits and how it could benefit your firm’s needs. It then goes through products and deployment options from the leading HCI vendors.
