A very basic intro level. Substances and some effects are listed. There is almost zero description of their composition or medically studied effects, just sort of subjective impressions. I would not experiment with anything mentioned here, based just on the content of this book. But it does supply a place to get familiar with the concept and start your research.

‘The possibilities are limitless.’
Erik Smith is a prolific writer of self-help books. Some of his many publications include ENLIGHTENED RUNNING, FORAGING, STRESS MANAGEMENT, CARBOHYDRATE CYCLING FOR WOMEN, NATURAL TESTOSTERONE BOOSTERS FOR MEN, HIGH FIBER FOODS, GRATITUDE JOURNAL, GREEN SMOOTHIES, TEA CLEANSE and more. Now he invites us to explore the much misunderstood topic of NOOTROPICS.In Erik’s inimitable manner he introduces this guide by defining Nootropics – first from the dictionary: ‘ - a substance that enhances cognition and memory and facilitates learning’ then from his own enlightened experience: ’ A natural or synthetic substance that stimulates cognitive functions. When taken, there are very little, to no side effects. Low toxicity. Can be used in the long term. Can help you with any of the following: memory, moods, learning, focus, and any similar benefit that deals with cognitive functions.’Once defined as to function he lists the types of nootropics - Natural Nootropics, Racetams, Choline, Ampakines, Derivatives of vitamin b, and Peptides – and explains the mechanism of action of each. Perhaps his preference is Racetams as they are known to stimulate acetylcholine, a neurotransmitter that controls many systems, but especially the central nervous system (affecting moods, motivation level, focus, memory, attention span and so forth). Then he gets technical and lists the available nootropics, their source, where to fine them, and lists every one by scientific name. His commitment to informing us about these stimulants is excellent and his suggestion for combining some of the products and how to start trying the products is particularly useful. This is a very informative book about something few of us are familiar – and many of us need! Grady Harp, Harp, April 16

Good, VERY SHORT intro to the ABSOLUTE BASICS of Nootropics.
This is not a book. It's a well-informed and researched blog post at best. I literally read it in 20 minutes. It's VERY much a beginner's guide, but it does a great job at orientating the readers to basic concepts such as what nootropics are, what stacks are and a few common stacks. The book ends rather abruptly at what looks like an affiliate marketing page listing several nootropic suppliers, but again, the resources proved are fairly good.

Apparently these drugs hack out the part of the brain that handles grammar and punctuation
Really, "A Beginners Guide Who Want To Hack Their Brain"? That doesn't even make sense, not to mention that there should be an apostrophe in "Beginner's". The inability to write a grammatically correct subtitle, or at least hire a proofreader, doesn't exactly inspire confidence in the correctness of the book's contents. If this is what nootropics have done for the author, no thanks.

fantastic
This book was short, sweet and to the point. Nootropics are certainly beginning to take off in America. If you want to keep up with the times I suggest reading this book and learning how to increase your mental capacity with nootropics.
