Wixey WR400 3-Inch Digital Protractor

I used this to measure inside and outside angles for quarter-round miter cuts on a wood floor I installed at home. Worked perfectly, measurements were accurate, was a huge help. I like the ability to physically lock the angle in place, which makes it useful for directly transferring measurements to other media or hardware. Fine product, very happy I bought it.

Ordered 4 of these. Work great but one of the protractors was missing the battery compartment.

First off let me say I'm a machinist, I do alot of sheet metal forming so this comes in handy when I'm finding shorter angles. Additionally I have the 8" that I use almost daily. The only issue I've had was the magnet came out of the slot so I am about to re-glue to secure it. Otherwise it has worked out well for me.

I own every instrument that Wixey has to offer. They all work and perform exactly as advertised - except this 3 inch Digital Protractor. The one that I was shipped does not work at all. I "zero" it out as instructed and when I move the arm there is no change in the reading - still reads 0.0.Having said that I am not going to trash talk Wixey, because I have not contacted them yet to let them know about the defective Protractor. I will call them on Monday (11/29/2010) and see what they will do. I suspect that they will either tell me that I am doing something wrong or offer to send a replacement. I am very optimistic that I will get satisfactory results.

Wixey is the best protractor that I use for my job. It's accurate and the only digital protractor that I use. They are harder to find but Amazon has them

I already have a WR410 which I liked but thought that the smaller WR400 would make a good addition. I have a new 10" miter saw which needed the blade to be squared to the table. This is a pain using a square as you have to hold it in position but the strong magnets held it to the blade, holding the other side to the aluminum base with one hand and adjusting the screw(s) with the other made it easy. It's much easier to tell if you are going the wrong way with the adjusting screws also.I also used the WR410 folded out to 180 degrees to check and shim one fence that was out a bit.

This tool is great. I have found many ways to use it. If I tilt the table on my drill press, all I have to do is place the digital readout portion against a 1/2" diameter rod in the drill chuck and the pivoting arm on the table to get the table back to 0 degrees horizontal. Has been really handy on the table saw as well. Don't guess at the angle or your setup, measure it or validate it with this tool!
