One of THE great serials from the Jon Pertwee era
One of THE great serials from the Jon Pertwee era. Great story, bonus features (as usual, the audio commentary is a hoot), and you also get the isolated musical score, where the rest of the audio is muted and you get just the music. This last thing is important, as one of the great features of 70's Doctor Who was it's music. In particular, on this one, a composer named Malcolm Clarke performed the score on the BBC Radiophonic Workshop's recently acquired EMS Synthi 100 synthesizer. This was a large instrument, roughly equivalent to the large modular synths made by US companies like Moog and ARP. As such, it's a very experimental score, which might not be to everyone's liking, but if you're interested at all in electronic music, this is an important chapter in it's development in the UK. It's worth noting that today, one modular synth manufacturer, STG Soundlabs, makes a filter called the Sea Devil Filter, based on the EMS Synthi 100 filter, and named in tribute to the Clarke's score here.

my second classic who episode!
that was so very good! with it being my very second classic who episode that I saw, I loved every minute of it. of course if u don't like classic tv, standard not-so-great costumes for the monsters, then this will not be ur thing, but for me, that's the great charm of it. no one recommended this one to watch and its not on any best classic who lists, but I thought it was fantastic. when I first saw a picture of john pertwee,, I wondered why he was described as being the 'james bond' sort of doctor, but then I watched it and yup, he pretty much is: subtle, clever, witty. also I never often hear about people favoring jo as a companion, but I thought she was great. I also think this was the first doctor who episode I saw where there was no tardis and it held my attention.

Brought back great memories watching with dad
Being a big Tom Baker fan, I've been neglecting the other doctors unfairly. I hadn't seen a Jon Pertwee show since the late 1980s, but I remembered really enjoying this particular episode. I won't go into details about the plot, just to say that I enjoyed it immensely.Jo as a companion is even more wonderful than I remembered her. Very spunky and not afraid to jump right into things, well at least most of the time. Katy Manning is wonderful in the role, though I have to admit I really enjoyed his previous companion, Liz, as well.Jon Pertwee is amazing as the Doctor, very dapper and with a quick wit to boot.I really recommend this serial highly. Enjoy!

Doctor Who: The Sea Devils
very Happy with DVD its funny to look at the way they made these TV shows compared to today's Doctor Who the Sea Devils, an off shoot of the Silurians. from the 7 season Doctor Who and The Silurians I loved watching some of the special features especially when they told about using actual soldiers from the base they where filming at

This is awesome! Campy and cool, a classic. So glad I found this (on sale), Doctor Who (especially vintage Who) rules!

Real-deal Dr Who
Despite the low budget this still has the sense of menace I remember from when it was fresh on BBC. No gadgets, no bizarre plots lines (aside from the world being taken over by a hibernated race of course), just genuine pedigree Dr Who. I could watch it all over again numerous times and, wife permitting, probably will!

Not the strongest story
Over the last few months...I've been buying Dr.Who episodes like mad, and have quite a collection now. While my favorite 3 doctors are : David Tennant (Doctor 10) , Patrick T (Doctor 2) and Tom Baker (Doctor 4), Jon Pertwee has started to grow on me. Before I found him sort of grumpy, like Hartnell was. But as the stories continued I found his doctor a good blend of brains and action. Although this story isn't the strongest, and is very similar to the second story for his doctor ( Doctor Who and the Silrunians). If I were you I would buy that episode first...its much better.
