Great intro to maps
Great intro to maps! I love that this turns a complex, abstract concept into something my 3 year old can understand.

GIS Day Elementary School Book
Besides the Cat in the Hat Map book, this book was the most popular on GIS Day for the first and second grade classes. The children enjoyed having them read to them and had access to them in the classroom after the national festivities.

Educational and fun to read and replicate
lustrated in full color, Me on The Map takes a approach on explaining maps in a abstract way. In full color and in a playful way, Me on The Map first introduces you to maps and geography, step by simple creatively simple step. How you ask? A young girl shows readers first shows readers a drawn map of her room done in crayon, than her house on the map of the street, all the way to her country on a map of the world. The young girl demonstrates to readers how they can find their own country, state, and town all the way back to their own backroom, each in a wonderful colorful map. With easy to read text and bright artwork it will have children eager to help navigate the next vacation, maybe Christmas or new years? You know how many different types of maps there are? As you are reading the book, Sweeney simplifies the nature of the maps to help them more easily to understand, and inspires the cartographer in every child. Inspiring anyone who reads wanting to give a try at making their own map if only just for fun to see just where it might lead them even if it’s just out your own front door cause every step is an adventure and a new lesson to learn.Do you know a different type of map that one time early before ships had navigation; the captains had to read the stars to navigate the ship to its destination to different countries around the earth all over the globe. What is the purpose the author writes in Me On The Map? It seems to me the author is trying to show the reader how fun and easy it is to read and make a map. As you read Me On The Map, have you decided what kind of map would be the most useful? Take a read and find out and enjoy and see where the adventure may take you.Artist Cable's clear, decisive renderings show a wealth of detail on the scenic illustrations, while her creative progression of maps includes handmade examples, a souvenir state map, an elementary classroom map of the country and, finally, a "flat" map of the world. One that kids will enjoy replicating.

Where I fit into the world- Social Studies for littles
Super helpful for kids still figuring out where they fit in the world. Used it as part of a preschool/homeschool curriculum by Little School of Smith’s.

Great book for Kindergarten/1st grade
I bought this for my K-4 class, and they loved it. The concepts are simple and presented clearly with beautiful illustrations. It went very well with our maps unit, which was designed for K-5, and I think it would also be a fun book in 1st grade if you are discussing maps or just on your classroom shelf for the kids to enjoy. It could probably work as a reading book for 1st-2nd grades, and would also be a terrific addition to a homeschool for elementary age children and younger. :)

Good lesson, helpful to teach about maps
The book is good, very helpful in teaching about maps and places…..but the map of the US is incorrect. Mississippi and Alabama are in the wrong spots. It’s literally a book to teach about maps and places and they got the map of the US wrong.

IT IS the PERFECT explanation.
I love that it starts simple, expands out, and then goes in reverse. Starts with detailing the girl herself, her bedroom, her house, her street, her town, her state, country, and the world. All with brief explanations and a "map" of each. From there, the book brings it back in from the whole world, to finding your place in the world (all the way back to the girl in her room). I have a 5 year old and 7 year old and the 7 year old had the lightbulb moment with this book and the 5 year old wants to read it constantly. We are making maps just the girl did in the book to really drive it home. Thus far, I put post-its on each page to help it be more personal (with our town, state).

Totally orientated to the USA market
Should have read the reviews before accidentally purchasing it twice. It might be great if you live in a State in the USA. But I bought it for my granddaughter who lives in London . She flies off to the Mauritius next Wednesday for a holiday and I wanted to show her on a map where she was travelling .It would have been better to get an atlas. But the blurb about the book said it did not matter where you lived all the countries in the world are contained. Very poor maps of the UK and Mauritius Is just a blob. I call this misrepresentation!

American maps
Didn’t realise this was American. Great book but all about states and America. My young son loves maps but doing American maps first would be very confusing

A great book to explain our place in the world.
I bought this book for Pre-School and was impressed with the content. A great way to explain how we fit into the world, and that we all have our special place on the map. I would have given it 5 stars if in had been English rather than American, as they mentioned state rather than county.
