This is a lovely story about a little girl with a big imagination and I love for her baby brother. Illustrations are magnificent.

A classic
I've searched for this book for years, as it was one of my faves growing up in the early 1980s. A little girl dreams she's sailing in a ship with her stuffed animals and little brother. Awesome illustrations, sweet story, and so happy it's in my collection.

Our favorite book!
My daughter was gifted this book by a family friend who loved this book as a child. She said that it had been out of print when her children were young but she was thrilled to find it again. It's a beautiful story about a little girl named Margaret and her baby brother James. The illustrations are beautiful and the story is complex enough and sparks my children's imaginations. We read this story over and over and also gift it to other families too. Definitely a must-have for your library.

One of our favorite children's books
My then 5-year-old son brought this book home from school one day. As I recall, the school had a book sale or give-away, and this is the book he chose. I loved the story of Maggie, whose dreams of adventure come true in a safe, beautiful way. The text is poetic, the illustrations lovely. Years later I became friends with a neighbor's 5-year-old grandchild and frequently read her books from my kids' childhood. The Maggie B was her favorite, and when we moved away, I gave it to her. This year I became a grandmother myself when my daughter had a baby girl. I bought a new copy of The Maggie B for her. She can't understand the words yet, but she loves the pictures and her mom and I are happy to have this charming book back in the family.

and this new hardcover version I got as a gift for a good friend and her kids
This is a book I read in my childhood that left a lovely impression on me. This is a truly unique story about a little girl's dream of a day on her very own boat, with just her baby brother for company. The illustrations are magical in my opinion, and it very sweetly touches on so many important concepts for kids - pride in what you own, cleaning up, joys of cooking, taking care of others, confidence & independence. There's a storm and she deals with that as well. I still own our old version in paperback, and this new hardcover version I got as a gift for a good friend and her kids. It is absolutely gorgeous and did not disappoint. The hardback's illustration colors are much warmer than those in my paperback version. This book is a gem.

I loved this book as a child and never forgot it. I was thrilled to be able to read it to my own son and even more thrilled when he loved it too. I am an early childhood teacher with a deep background in writing and English literature and I highly recommend this book!

Nice Book
This was a nice story for my four year old son's sister (12 years old) to gift to him. She enjoys reading it to him, and the story is something to bring the two of them closer together, despite the age gap.

Beautiful book
This book I give 5-Stars.I loved this book as a child, I mean I read a lot of books, but my dad read this to me at bedtime and honestly between this book and a couple others, my dad was a saint, because he never said,"Suzy, don't you want to read a different book?" Because I had a baby brother at the time, this book I could relate too, and use my imagination, something kids really don't use that much today. After all the book is for kids, not adults.Anyway- when I had my daughter I searched for this book along with others and was SOOOOOO happy when I found it I was like BUY IT NOW!!!! I was so excited. My daughter loved this book and to this day its on her shelf and cherishes it, we had the best bedtime story time ever.

Vale comunque la pena
Bello ma in effetti un po’ datato, una pecca, a pagine alterne le illustrazioni sono in bianco e nero

The perfect book for a young artist
I LOVED this book as a child. My sister and I are both artists and unbeknown to each other, we have both been haunted by this story. I'd been trying to find this book for years (without the title or author). I finally found it last November and it arrived just before Christmas. As a child, something about this little story penetrated to my core. Maggie, the little girl on the ship, is an artist. And she's sailing in her dream ship with her little brother. (I would have had a brand new baby brother when I first read this - he's now a lovely man). This book has come again into my life at just the right time. I'm planning to frame the cover under glass to hang in my kitchen. Food (eating healthy food) is a large part of the story. If you have a child who you think is artistically minded or if you are an adult artist buy yourself a copy of this book. The illustrations are brilliant. The story is brilliant. I Love it!

A little gem of a book
I adore this book. I loved it when I first read it as a child in the 70’s and so glad I can share the magic with my own daughter now.
