Fire On The Floor

Powerful And Emotive!
I have to say that I've only been listening to Beth Hart since she was "introduced" to me by way of the music of Joe Bonamassa and the initial album that they did together which was rather good. In the interim, I have been back tracking Beth's catalogue so that now I am up to date and, having recently witnessed her concert at Birmingham Symphony Hall (which was excellent but marred for the first few numbers due to poor sound on the mike, of all things...and the audience insistence upon filming everything to upload to Facebook/YouTube etc, etc....why can an audience not just sit there and watch and listen to the show directly, not have to watch the screen of an iPhone or iPad??....but I digress!) so having heard much of the Fire On The Floor album live, I did have to buy me a copy! Now this here album is a mixture of blues/jazz and rock and fairly fizzles and blusters it's way through it's playing time and certainly keeps the listener's attention, but it's the 2 tracks: "Love Is A Lie" and the title track "Fire On The Floor" that has the hackles on the back of your neck raised...powerful, emotive and sung with absolute passion and these tracks alone will have you reaching for the repeat button.....and the volume button as you need to "feel" these as much as hear them...brilliant, nothing less! And while these two tracks justify the price of the album, there is plenty here other than searing blues to make you want to play this album all the way through without any stopping, even though some might construe some tracks as a little lightweight - nope, in my book, they all show the various facets of the vocal range of this remarkable singer! If you're into female vocals with a searing edge as well as a songsmith with a good lyrical command, then really, this will hit the spot - and if you get the opportunity to see the lady in concert - don't give it a moment's hesitation, go see her too because her performance (and that of her wonderful band) is astounding!

A sonic treat for your ears.
The album wasn't a grower or a slow burn. Right from the first listen it was pure gold. The musicianship is sublime, classy and......well perfect. When I say that, I mean it's polished to perfection but still retains all its character and soul. Then Beth is Beth. What more can I say about her. She's a Titan of this genre. I'd go as far as saying I honestly can't think of any singer male or female who for me has better vocals. She switches from a sweet honey like voice to a raw growl that has bucket loads of grit. She seems to be able to do it all.I honestly can't think of any loose tracks on this album either. No fillers, all thrillers. My hats off to Beth Hart and all her band members.Buy it, buy it, buy it!

An album of two halves .....
It is difficult, maybe impossible, task to follow on from her various collaborations with Joe Bonamassa, and, especially, "Better than Home", which is the most played of all my music collection. However on listening to "Fire on The Floor" I find myself frustrated at the content and styling of the album. Filled with jazz/ soul elements, enthused with over intrusive brass and drum support, the first half never really takes off for me, and that amazing vocal talent is never given the opportunity to shine .It is only with the 5th track , "Love is a Lie", that we get the trade-mark vocal depth and intimacy expected .....and thankfully from there ( with a couple of exceptions) the album bursts into life ..." Fire on The Floor" , "Good Day to Cry" , "Picture in the Frame", "Woman You've been Dreaming" and " No Place like Home" all focus on that soul-searing voice , and the intimacy as found in "Better than Home" ........ and the magic is back !Its just a shame it takes so long to get there !

A very good album as you would expect from Beth Hart but ...
A very good album as you would expect from Beth Hart but because it is so diverse there are a couple of tracks that i really didn't like which is why i have given it 4 stars.instead of 5. . Having said that the other tracks are excellent especially "love is a lie" and Jazzman. I am amazed that Beth Hart isn't a bigger mainstream star by now because she is such a great talent and her live shows are fantastic.

BETH HART RELEASES ANOTHER EXCELLENT ALBUM
What a great, well manufactured album. Beth Hart is one of the finest performing artists around today. This is a solid release all the way around with songs that embrace a variety of musical styles from jazz to rock to blues to R&B to soul. This record really shines for people who love wonderful lyrics and great song writing, singing, and musicianship. I love this artist. I love this album. If you get a chance to see her live, don't miss the opportunity.

Wonderfully talented
Where has Beth Hart been for the best part of my life? A great bluesy earthy voice that I will certainly be catching up with. Fortunate to see her in concert at Royal Festival Hall and was blown away by her talent. Great singer, great musician, I implore you all to go out and discover her for yourselves. Highly recommended.
