The Total Gun Manual (Field & Stream): 335 Essential Shooting Skills

Pretty darned good book on shotguns & rifles. ..not much on handguns. But it's Field & Stream folks. That means mostly game hunting. ..good explanation on the various clay-pigeon sports. ..plenty of tips for most shooters to make the book worthwhile. .. enjoyable read & will keep it handy for reference. Attractive design looks good displayed on the coffee table.

Bought this book at the same time I bought the other two books from Field and Stream. I had seen them for sale at a local bookseller's place but didn't have the money on me at the time. This one deals with all things gun, shotguns, rifles, pistols, optics, handloading, shootong, you name it. Although not in great detail it can give anyone a good starting point for gun ownership and care. lots of tips as well as interesting little facts. Oh, and show this book to those anti-gunners and just maybe you might convert a couple to the miracle of the gun and its impact and history in the world, and maybe they won't consider it the "evil" which it unjusly is being called.

Very informative and entertaining! The authors write in a way that is casual, funny and easy to read yet quite educational. I bought this because I love the outdoors, hunting and firearms. I expected it to be a book for the coffee table to pick up and skim through every now and again. However, I've found myself reading every word from beginning to end. I have been an avid outdoorsman my whole life but surprisingly I'm learning a lot more than I thought I would. Now I am thinking of buying similar books by field & stream.

I received the book with much anticipation. It is attractive and appears well organized. My plan was to start at page one and go through the whole book in order. I was patient at first with the lack of real information but after a few chapters started to sift through it looking for useful information. In whole, it does give some useful tips but I think the title "335 Essential Shooting Skills" is a bit exaggerated. It is not exactly what I was looking for! It was inexpensive and I am glad to have read it but I will continue looking for a more definitive "essential" shooters manual. Any suggestions for the "Holy Grail" on shooting an hunting advice?

I saw the ad for this book on the authors' TV show on the Outdoor Channel, and pre-ordered it through Amazon. It was delivered the day the book was released. This edition is an update of the previous edition.There is a tremendous amount of info on rifles and shotguns, but not much on pistols and revolvers. That's what I expected, as the authors are experts in rifles and shotguns. There are recommendations for the best rifles or shotguns and ammunition for specific situations.The book is written in short, easy to understand blurbs on specific topics, with logical reasons for the opinions they present. I'm very pleased with the book.

Do not buy this expecting a manual. It is not. However, it is a great collection of shooting and gun tips, every one worth reading and considering. There is even a bit of firearms trivia thrown in. Its format lends itself to short reading, as each tip stands on its own. This allows me to grab it and read a few when I have a few spare moments.everyone will not agree with everything written there, but that is no big deal.Despite the minor quibble on the title, I strongly recommend this if you buy it as "A Collection of Shooting and Gun Skills."

This is OK for a beginner or maybe an intermediate shooter.The biggest problem I have is that it is basically anywhere from a paragraph to maybe a half-page on each topic. They touch on all kinds of things, but nothing is in depth.This book gives you a "direction" to look, but not much "meat" on any particular subject.

I’m a Range Officer at a 5 star facility and was amazed at how much info was to be had in this book. You’ll be better off for having read it.

As this was a christmas present can't comment on the content. However the recipient spent most of christmas day with his head in this book, I'm guesssing by this it was a hit!!

This is a great reference book to own. I am fairly new to shooting sports so this was an excellent resource for me. There is a great deal of practical knowledge contained in this book and I would recommend it to anyone novice or pro. Also the book is well made and looks great on a coffee table.

This book is not bad. The Field and Stream books are well written. But if you have a field and stream subscription,have read other field and stream books or read it online, you have probably read a lot of these articles before. There are some good explanations about equipment and what to look for, but it is biased and I would disagree with a few things in this book IE. there top calibers in rifles and handguns. It`s a good bathroom book though, good quick read articles. Its an alright Christmas gift for a young boy interested in guns and hunting.

Excellent book with lots of good tips and advice. Some things in the book have to be taken with a grain of salt though as it is a book intended to be in the hands of Americans. All in all a good informative read for gun veterans and newbies alike.

Funny, informative. Watch-out Canada - the book has been written for the US market so some content is not applicable here. Beware of local regulations and limitations!
