Review Uvify Drone Exec Summary: Fun but a little too sensitive!
This Uvify is the first drone I've ever owned, flown or played with that was not a simple toy. The drone is well made, small (fits in the hand) and flies well. The remote control has a screen that projects the feed from the camera and the controls, while not perfectly intuitive, can be learned readily.First, the positives: the drone flies, is fast and very responsive. When I say fast, it is meant to race and you can feel the power when it lifts. It moves air! I've launched it right from my flat hand and felt how strong the lift was by pinching the body while it lifted. It was surprisingly strong. The actual connection with the drone from the remote feels solid and even when it was quite high, I still felt like i had control. I used it on a breezy day and although the wind carried it a little, the props were strong enough to resist. Now, the not so positives: First, the controls are too responsive. A little touch sends the moving drone careening into anything including a dive straight for the ground. It is well built enough (particularly with the rails) to withstand long falls, but its a little frustrating. The upper left button starts and stops the engine and it is a little too accessible. Almost every flight ends with me hitting that button, either on purpose ("Its getting away!") or by mistake ("Oh no, again?"). The screen on the remote is cool but I pretty much never use it, except to confirm that the drone and remote are paired up. I'm always too busy watching the drone.Second, the battery life is really short. It drains after about 3 mins of flight and while you can order additional batteries for $15 or so, I have not ordered them.Third, my biggest problem is that while I live in a pretty flat area, because I can't control the drone perfectly or even well, I don't know where it will land. I've pulled it out of trees, and off the roof of a house. Eventually, I know I'm going to lose it, just a question of when.So a couple of suggestions to the manufacturer: Nice product! I like that it starts on 'Hover,' I would like a come-hither control that literally send a command for the drone to come back automatically. I'm OK, if its 20 feet above me, but I would like it to come back.Second, I would like the drone to have the ability to right itself. The rails on the drone make it likely that it will land upside down and from there, it is not going anywhere until it is turned over by hand. If there is a way for it to know it is upside down and pop over, it would make it easier to retrieve.Last, I would suggest a way to record the video, either to thumb drive or beamed to an app on a phone. I never get to see the screen, I'm always watching the drone itself, anxious that it is going to get away.If you are considering purchasing this drone, it is fun, but you should consider where you will use it (flat open and accessible are going to be important) and a little more work by the manufacturer would make the experience of flying the drone easier and more fun.

Terrific little racing drone -- great fun!
This is a fantastic racing drone for beginners. It comes in a heavily padded little box that includes both the drone and the remote controller. I charged it up in about 30 minutes from a standard AC USB adapter and started flying immediately! The drone itself is super tiny, with a small camera on the front that you can aim up or down. it's also pretty robust, and the removable propeller guards protect it from damage; I had quite a number of crashes on my first few flights, and it works like a champ despite the collisions. The remote control has two analog sticks and feels quite nice to fly. Note that this drone uses standard radio frequencies to fly and beam back the video image, so you're not going to be using your cell phone for this! Range was especially impressive and I was able to fly the drone over 80 feet with no signal drop. (If this is your first drone, don't see how high you can go, unless you want to see how crosswinds work and will deposit your new toy in a tree somewhere.) You can output video via standard composite, so don't expect to be saving your footage to a MicroSD card or something; this guy is made for racing and not for taking pictures above your house.Video quality on the remote controller was good enough; it looks like standard SDTV and the display was large enough that I was able to fly by only looking at the controller as the sole point of reference. I wish the view angle on the camera was a little bit wider, though.Battery life for the drone is about 4 minutes, which is quite reasonable for a drone of this size, and the remote controller lasts a really long time to the point where I didn't ever have to worry about it. You will get on-screen warnings when the battery is low and it's time to shut down. You can also buy additional batteries that you can keep on deck if you want to swap out batteries and keep flying. This thing is really a dream to fly. There are optical sensors that reference the ground and keep things level if you're indoors and keep things relatively close to the ground, and stabilization was never a problem. Pressing the right trigger will change flight modes, allowing you to really blast off and ascend/descend very, very quickly. If you remove the propeller guards, you can get even better performance, but I would do this at your own risk (however, a set of replacement propellers is included). The only complaint that I have is that the manual is not particularly in-depth, opting to point you to a YouTube video of questionable quality. The support staff is very good, though, and were available to answer questions quickly. All in all, this is a great starter drone, and it goes like a bat out of heck if you give it the chance. Just remember to start slow, read the manual, and always fly safe!
