This is my second Chieftain Low D Whistle... the first was talked out of my possession by a fourth year music major who had an awesome smile. The whistle has a beautiful haunting tone; I have read reviews on this particular whistle regarding problems with tuning. I have not experienced this problem myself and don't hesitate recommending the Chieftain low D to anyone wanting a low whistle.

Five Stars
Great value, took a couple of weeks to get it warmed up. Love it!

Very Disapointed
Plays like a flute that popped its spring. I got a plastic Dixon at half the price that sounds 1000 times better. I will never buy another Chieftain as long as I live.

Mixed opinion on Chieftain low D whistle
i got a chieftain D low whistle....sounds very breathy in the second octave...bottom D occasionally sound sharp...says you can tune it but it doesn`t seem possible...at times it sounds great, especially in the lower octave but at other times it gets hoarse and fluffy sounding..probably fluid from my mouth...i do clean it and that helps...i use the pipers grip to play it as the holes are large...cold weather does affect it.

Solid, breathy whistle. Phil Hardy stands behind his products.
I've owned this whistle for nearly a year now. It has a nice tone and looks good. My only complaint is that the C sharp is flat unless blown harder than I'd like, and the top end B is noticeably sharp unless I shade it with my finger. However, Phil Hardy (the maker) actually reached out to me to offer to fix the whistle, and I plan to send it to him soon. There are other whistles out there that are better (Goldie and MK are on my wish list) but they are hand made and more expensive. I might have bought an MK Kelpie low D if I'd known about it, but to give this whistle only one star is not fair, in my opinion. It's a good whistle.Update: Whistle is back. The C# does seem to be improved. The whistle was polished up. The top end does is still a little touchy about how it's blown. Sometimes it seems sharp, other times it seems okay. Still not perfect, but serviceable. I did get an MK pro low D. I find it to be similar to the Chieftain, but the tone is more powerful and crisper, while the Chieftain is a softer whistle (both in volume and tone). The Chieftain is much breathier. The MK's tone reminds me of dry leaves, while the Chieftain evokes more of a wind whistling through caves type of feel, if that helps at all.I take the Chieftain to school and play it in the stairwell, where it sounds great still. The MK was too loud. The MK would be a great session whistle due to its volume, but the top end gets harsh around the A and B, although in tune. Tuning seems better on the MK.

a great whistle at a great price
The low Chieftain whistles have had very good tone and response with just the right amount of chiff. This low D is sweet.

worth the price
I had a Dixon Low D whistle before , that one is plastic , the Chieftain one is more solid and feels much better .

Einzelstück / Retoure ? Scheinbar defekt

Just brilliant.
Love this instrument! It's so forgiving. As a beginner I was worried about keeping it together but it's fantastic. The sound is simply beautiful. The scalloped holes and closer spacing makes progressing so much easier. Stunning instrument. So glad I bought it.

quelle classe
