The book is very nice, but it says there is online audio to accompany it and I can’t find this information anywhere.

I am a teacher and have used a previous editions of this book for years. This is the third edition and I am glad it comes with the CDs. The previous editions DO NOT come with CDs. You'd have to buy them separately.IMPORTANT NOTE: On Amazon.com this third edition is listed as written by Jorge Amado. Correction: Jorge Amado was one of the main modern authors in Brazil. The actual authors of Falar...Ler.. Escrever... Português are Emma Eberlein O. F. Lima and Samira A. Lunes.

I am an English speaker with no background in Portuguese. I purchased this book to take lessons through a local language school. If you are a true beginner and have no one to help you, this book will probably be frustrating. I have a very good teacher and still find the book frustrating. It is all in Portuguese so you have to translate every word. It is very time consuming. My biggest gripe is there doesn't seem to be any logical sequence to the book. Even my instructor who has been using this book for years couldn't explain the logic of the chapters. If you're a person that likes to know the big picture of why you are learning something and then dive into the how of it all, you won't get any of that explanation in the book. you jump straight into the details with no logical sequence. As others mention, there are no answers provided so unless you have someone able to correct you, you're out of luck. For the untrained beginner ear, the examples on the CD are spoken too fast. It's hard to catch every word. You need to find an application to slow the speed down. I've had to supplement my learning with other things (John Whitlam's Modern Brazilian Portuguese Grammar; Lingua da gente, an online podcast series; and other things) plus my instructor. I would not rely on this book alone.
