Artex Personal Locator Beacon

Until I attended the course, I hadn't thought about a unit like this. A distress beacon is built into commercial watercraft and aircraft. If, God forbid, you need to activate the onboard beacon, in most cases, you will "go for help", and walk away from the boat or plane. And hikers don't have a craft to begin with. Thus, a Personal Locator Beacon assists your rescuer in finding YOU (beyond the aircraft or watercraft you are in). This unit is both safe from accidental activation and easy-to-operate if needed. It is equipped with both the locator and GPS. I would give a potential purchaser two pieces of advice. 1) As is, it will not float. Put the floatation collar on it. 2) Once you have it, SEND IN THE PAPERWORK. It makes it a whole lot easier to find you, if we need to.

Arrived as scheduled. Cost comparable other sellers of Artex. It is not water proof, but I knew that when I purchased it. It is more compact than I expected. Registration is REQUIRED, no fees. Very easy via NOAA web site. Received a written confirmation in about 5 days from NOAA. Purchased for when I fly my airplane over remote areas.

Best insurance for everyone. This is a professional system with one mission and that is to save lives. iFly aircraft and travel in various countries and would never leave home without it. If you have nothing else in your travel emergency kit you must have shelter water food fire starting and a PLB. I I'm not interested in monthly service charges, and this system has none. in the event of a real emergency I'm not interested in texting or other unnecessary extras. The only priority is survive get a signal out and get rescued. Highly recommended.

PLB was easy to set up and test. Registration can be done online. I keep it next to my DSD (pictured) for easy access when I go hiking. Make sure you register it and put the registration on the device!

Do yourself a favor and sign online for the registration and it save the headache of writing in. You will feel much safer
