Backlit screens can give me headaches and are known to cause sleep issues. An e-ink word processor solves these issues. There are not a lot of options out there for e-ink devices and most are expensive. I love e-ink screens and also have a kindle reader. After looking at the other e-ink word processing options I decided on this device. I highly recommend it. I love the portability and the options. It is easy to use and even though the default language is japanese, it just takes a few seconds to switch to english. The keyboard works really well, but it takes some adjusting for caps and periods. Batteries last a long time, as one would expect from e-ink. I do wish that it had a Wi-fi connection so that I could back up and transfer more easily. Even without this, I am very glad that I picked this device over the other options.

So I'd like to start by saying that I found this product because I couldn't afford Astrohaus products like the Freewrite or Traveler.Part of me knew that those products were kind of gimmicky and though thet were purported to do what I wanted, the obvious drawbacks and price tag required me to find something else.I am so happy I bought this product over anything else.It has a fairly responsive E-ink screen which is great on the eyes. Not much input delay, some as it to be expected, but it's a non-issue for me.Keyboard is not rickety but it does not lock in the open position so typing on the lap is not great. I just use a book and I'm good to go. Keys feel good and have a satisfying sound - a bit cramped but you adapt and it really is a great keyboard for the size and dimensions.The device is a little quirky and takes some getting used to. It took me about two hours to move in and set myself up with my own settings and customization. I'm not sure how to bind/ swap keys but I believe you can.Overall a great product if a bit quirky, this is the for Japan model so its not necessarily in sync with everything we are accustomed to in the US. I still love it.If you want something to write on distraction free, this is your best bet over Astrohaus products or a Alpha smart device. Best value by far, solid performance and it is exactly what I expect when I think of a modern "typewriter."

My beloved Poqet PC ran on two AA batteries that lasted two weeks, had onboard DOS 3.0 and slots for PCMCIA cards that carried WordPerfect 5.0 for DOS and stored your documents. Unfortunately mine is no longer functional and anyway I couldn't get a PC to read the cards anymore.Now comes the Pomera DM30.Pros:1. No internet -- no distractions. You can curl up somewhere and just write.2. Runs on AA batteries that last days.3. Easy to transfer your creative work to a PC via USB cable. No special software needed.4. Easy-to-read e-ink screen. Has an option to switch to white text on black background (hit F9).5. Keyboard is close to full size (an advantage over the Poqet).6. Screen is big enough to show a couple of paragraphs at a time (bigger than Freewrite Traveler).7. Menu is intuitive and easy to navigate.Cons:1. Keyboard doesn't lock open so you have to put it on a flat surface. For me, not a big deal.2. No backlight (that's how the batteries last so long). Again, not a big deal for me. Just a little ambient light is needed.3. Only one viewable font. (But the font is fine, and you can change the size.)4. QWERTY keyboard has a couple of keys different from standard. Easy to get used to.5. A bit overpriced. Should be about $200 less. Still, less than any other similar device.6. Warranty appears to be good only in Japan. Well . . . even if it breaks down next month I still will have made back on productivity what I spent. I'll see what customer support looks like.7. Navigation is by keystroke only; no touchscreen; slightly slow key response. But these are not problems with a simple device used for creating pure text documents. For me, a slower pace makes for better writing anyway.Highly recommended!

I have been hunting for device for quite some time now and was so happy to get it! It worked well and was super easy to use. Definitely would recommend if you are a writer looking for a distraction free writing device.Do take note that while there is English keyboard support, some of the position of the keys is different from the standard English keyboard.

定価にもどっとるがな！（やっぱりプレミアついたんですかね？あるいは再評価されてきている？）というわけで、安く買えたことにほっとしつつレビューします。最初に断っておくと、私はキングジム社が想定するようなヘビーポメラユーザーではないので、「ポメラとしてどうか」ということはさておき、単純に物書きとしての仕事にどのように役立っているかを基準に商品を判断しています。（というのも、DM200も所有していますが、買ったものの、使わなかったのです (;'Д｀)ﾓｯﾀｲﾈｪ･･･）この商品（DM30）は、テキストメモに特化したマシンということで、当然、利用することで成果が得られるユーザーは限られると思います。私も物書きの端くれとして、この商品に魅力を感じ、購入しました。購入当初のイメージでは、このDM30をフルに活かして、（なんならメイン機にでもして）全ての仕事をカバーしようとくらいに考えていましたが、さすがにそれは無理でした(笑)理由は、表示の遅延でもなく、ポメラSyncが使えないことでもありません。このポメラDM30が私の仕事の「一部」を非常に効率化してくれることには気づきましたが、全部は賄えないことですね。当然です。この端末はあくまでテキストメモですから、現代のなんでもネットワークにつながった社会の中では、できることは限られている商品です。では、その「一部」は何なのかと申しますと、結局のところ、このDM30が持つ魅力に辿り着いていた、ということでした。（もったいぶってます('ω')）この端末ならではの特長を挙げるとすると、以下の４点かと思います。①コンパクトかつノートPC並みの入力携帯端末での面倒な入力や、PCを常時持ち歩くことから解放されます。荷物巨大、面倒。②乾電池駆動小さくても、入力がしにくかったり、Bluetoothのために余計な充電が必要なものは論外。乾電池は正義。③電子ペーパー仕事柄、長時間同じ文章を見続けるだけの時もあります。無駄なバックライト＆ブルーライトはカット。また、そんなことしてると画面がオートオフになるのですが、電源が切れても文章が表示されたままです。（その際、電池消費はありません。）④FlashAir機能標準搭載これ、かなり重要です。文章が端末の中にあるだけでは意味がないので、ファイル共有の方法がどのようになるかが、利便性を大きく左右します。DM30は、SDカード、USB接続、QRコード生成＆読み取り、FlashAirのいずれかの方法で共有できますが、ここではやはりネットワーク社会の効率性にあやかる方が賢いというものです。FlashAirで携帯端末にコピー⇒Evernoteに送信で、全ての利用端末で文章を共有できます。あとはノートをまとめて作業終了。双方向の同期ではないので、PC→ポメラは出来ませんが、そんなことしないので問題なし。（QRコードはりんご専用です。ﾅｾﾞｼﾞｬ!ヽ(`Д')ﾉ）※上記以外にも特長はあるでしょうが、それらは他の端末にも備わっている、あるいは上位互換の機能を持っているので、「DM30ならでは」とはいかないでしょう。【DM200との若干の比較】やはり事実上の最新機種であるDM200とは比較した方がいいのかもしれません。ということで、若干蛇足をば。DM200も持っていますので、他のレビューにある表示遅延の仰る意味も理解できますが、あくまで相対的なことですし、タイピングの鬼と化したヘビーポメラーの方は、利用シーンから考えて、敢えてDM30を選ぶ必要はないでしょう。（膝上打ち出来ませんし。）DM30はその機能上、じっくり腰を据えて、ゆっくり文章を紡ぐことに向いています。また、DM200は直接Evernoteへ文章を送れますので、その辺の効率性は高いのですが、結局Wifiなり、テザリングが必要なので、ノマドワーク時には面倒です。それよりは、気が向いたところで仕事したい。そして、③でも書いたように、電子ペーパーのなせる業、電源オフでも文章そのまま。DM200はこれができない。画面オフ解除はできますが、無駄に電池を消費する（充電式なのに）。考えている最中は、画面が消えたりで、思考を途切れさせたくないのです。以上のことから、かさばるノートPCをうんせと担ぎ、しかも電池残量を気にして充電ポートのある混雑したカフェに敢えて突入しなければならない不合理を解消して、ゆったりと文章を練れる。さらに、まとめの段階では既にEvernoteに材料は整っているという状況が作れる。（そこから先はPCの作業ですね。）そんな、ノマドワークをより効率化してくれた商品でした。ちょっとだけ不満を言うなら、このサイズの割に、若干重いです・・。（エネループ込み実測511g、その分、総合評価☆－１です。）とはいえ、この運用ができるようになってから、カバンが小さいポーチ一つです。幸せ(*'艸`*)長文レビュー、失礼しました。

梱包が丁寧で好感がもてました。DM30は思っていたより綺麗で、使い心地もいいです。

ブログ執筆用に購入。想像よりも剛性があり打鍵感も良好。集中して作業が出来ます。データはQR化してスマホに読み込ませる事ができるので便利。折り畳みヒンジの位置や重量バランス的に膝に乗せながらの作業は安定しません。机に置いての作業が前提の設計になっています。その代わりに得られているコンパクト設計が他に無い個性であり、自分にとって愛着持てる要素です。

目にやさしいと思って買ったけど、残像が残るし、残像消すとき画面チカチカさせるし、起動するときもチカチカで、逆に目に悪い感じがしました。タッチの反応が遅いのは、私は趣味で使うので、許容範囲ですが、その速度にちょいちょいむらがあるのはとてもマイナス要因です。起動に数秒かかるのは遅すぎる。光速を希望します。打弦感が心地悪く、ミスタッチしやすい。文字変換がアホ。ローマ字とか予測変換に出てこなくてよい。＊＊＊＊＊＊＊＊＊＊良かったこと。観音開きのポメラが欲しかったのと、比較的安くで買えたこと、電池使用なのがよいです。折り紙くらいのサイズで持ち運びしやすい。＊＊＊＊＊＊＊＊＊＊まだまだカラバリとかを要求できるレベルではないですね。がんばってください！
