Sivagamiyin sabatham is a Tamil historical novel written by Kalki in 1944. Believed by some to be one of the first historical novels in Tamil it was originally serialized in the weekly Kalki for about 12 years.This was later published as a novel. Along with Ponniyin Selvan, this is widely regarded as one of the greatest novels ever written in Tamil Set in 7th century south India against the backdrop of various historical events and figures. The novel created widespread interest in Tamil history when it was being published in the 1940s. Honour, love and friendship form important themes that run through the course of the novel that would be tough to point out who the real hero of the novel is. Mahendravarman I, the Pallava emperor plays an important role in the first half of the story while his son Narasimhavarman comes into his own as the novel progresses. The plot revolves around the historical events of the Chalukya king Pulakesi II playing a siege of Kanchi and Narasimhavarman avenging this by attacking Vatapi the capital of the Chalukyas. Excellent work
Superb writing, the writing style was simply amazing. The story will make you feel like it all happened as like this, as it all was merged with real people and most importantly when the book was written more than 70 years ago, the author has known all the characters individually and their own history. Nowadays, it was easy with Internet and wiki, but before 70 years it really needs a lot of reading and ground work as to know all the characters life history. Knowing every one's life history and their own words, sayings, and songs and merging and blending in the right areas is simply outstanding. About the Book: - The book is heavy as it contains more than 1000 pages so please place it on a desk or lap while reading it. - The paper quality is good for money and font sizes are adequate to read. - The bookmark ribbon length is not enough especially while crossing the pages after 700. I guess it should be placed in the middle of the book to get sufficient length. (This is need to be addressed in next editions) About the story: As everyone says Kalki's writing is always an unique and this novel will not disappoint you from the beginning to the end. Kalki was narrated this story with his deep and depth research and he has added various fictional characters as well same as Ponniyin selvan. Those interested on Historic novel reading can buy and read it and this book is also another treasure same as Ponniyin Selvan.

A classic book ever read. The author has portrayed every character in a unique way. Reading this book gives the feeling of living with these characters.

Quality of book is good, clear print and binding. I hope this will be good for many years. Want to have kalki's book in my collection.it is a good buy.

Its heavy
The book is too big. Elderly people struggling to carry and read the book since it's is too heavy. Expecting the Same Sivagamiyin Sabatham book with Part I, II, III & IV replaced for this. Difference amount will be paid at the time replacement.

great epic
Sivagamiyin Sabathan Kalkiyin great creation. I read it about 75 years ago when I was in high school. I might have read it ten times since then. Still it was excellent to read.

She is too thick...
What I really liked about this book is the story otherwise, this book was a pain to hold. It's as big as holding 5 books at the same time. So if you were to get this book, get an ebook and put this book on the shelf for show. The shipping is not worth it! :(
