Judith Flanders is an American author and journalist. Her books include: "The World According to Garp" and "The World According to Jules Verne". Flanders was born in 1940 and grew up in New York City. She is married to the children's author Dr. Seuss, who died in 1991. The couple had one son, Theodore Geisel, who became a writer and illustrator as well as the publisher of his father's books after his death. Flanders graduated from Barnard College in 1962 with a degree in political science and history, and continued her education at Columbia University, earning a graduate degree in journalism. That year she began her career as a reporter for the New York Herald Tribune and later wrote for The New Yorker and other publications. In 1983 she won a Pulitzer Prize for her reporting on the Vietnam War. She also served as president of the Authors Guild from 1991 until 1996, and currently heads its publishing committee. Flanders has written more than 25 books including: "The World According to Garp", "The World According to Jules Verne", "The Washingtons", "The Roaring Boys", "A Piece of the Action", "Four Americans", "Tea for Jeeves", "A Piece of Cake", "One Perfect Day", "The Gilded Years", "Mrs. Smith Goes To Washington" and "Women Who Do Everything".
